Job Description

A successful candidate will machine parts according to engineering specifications with a focus on safety, accuracy, precision, and quality. This role focuses exclusively on manual machining, utilizing equipment such as lathes, mills, drill presses, and band saws. The candidate must be proficient in reading blueprints and using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators. The primary material is stainless steel, but knowledge of machining carbon steel, aluminum, and various plastics is required.

Responsibilities

• Machine parts according to engineering specifications.
• Use manual machining equipment such as lathes, mills, drill presses, and band saws.
• Read blueprints and use precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
• Machine various materials including stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and plastics.

Essential Skills

• 1 year of manual machining experience or completion of an equivalent vocational program.
• Ability to operate manual machining equipment including lathes and mills.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking in English.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and machine symbols.
• Experience with machining stainless steel.
• Understanding of feed rates and speeds for tooling and materials.
• Capability to meet all company and customer facility entry requirements, including training, health and safety requirements, and pre-employment drug test.
• Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 2+ years of manual machining experience.
• Experience using a Baileigh lathe and Bridgeport mill.
• Experience with other manufacturing skills such as welding and fabrication.
• Experience with machining materials other than stainless steel.

Work Environment

The role is based in a production/shop environment, with job functions performed primarily in the shop facility and around construction/turnaround sites in food production facilities. Expect exposure to possible hazardous environments such as working at heights, loud noises, fumes, sparks, weld flash, vibrations, dust, dirt, irritants, and smoke. Personal protective equipment will be supplied, except for steel toe safety footwear and welding hood, for which assistance is available. Candidates must be able to work extended hours, including weekends, and perform physically demanding tasks such as standing, walking, crouching, stooping, kneeling, bending, crawling, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 100 lbs.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hutchinson, Kansas.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
