Summary:
The Coordinator, Exceptional Student Education (ESE), Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH), will provide training and support to DHH staff, schools, and district staff. The Coordinator, ESE, Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH), will report directly to the Supervisor of Sensory Programs and Related Services, Sarah Murphy-Ellis.
Responsibilities:
- Managing caseloads/assignments for all Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing Teachers/staff.
- Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of assigned teams.
- Carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the districts policies and applicable state and federal laws, including attending IEP meetings, developing trainings, coordinating team meetings, coaching teachers/staff working with students who are Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems, alongside the Supervisor for Sensory Programs and Related Services.
- Provides training and supervision to DHH teachers and interpreters.
- Orders, prepares, and distributes program-specific materials.
- Communicates with school personnel regarding the DHH program.
- Works collaboratively with all district departments to ensure that DHH teachers and staff are updated on current state and federal initiatives.
• Coordinates activities and workload in the office. • Assists with the development and delivery of training and on-going assistance. • Oversees use of department budget and ensures availability of appropriate supplies for personnel.
- Assists with organization, management, and coordination of the operations of the department.
- Serves as a liaison between the school district and various community groups and agencies.
- Provides status reports and projections.
- Oversees daily operations of the department, including assignment of work to personnel and monitor the quality of work accomplished.
- Maintains a program of good public relations through cooperation with other district and school personnel and through participation in appropriate local, state, and national organizations
- Performs any other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job successfully.
Education: A masters degree is required. Degree in deaf education and fluent in American Sign Language required. Degree or formal training in Educational Leadership preferred.
Experience: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in classroom teaching, with two (2) years of related management or supervisory experience required. Exceptional Student Education teaching experience preferred.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Florida Professional Educator Certificate is required. Educational Leadership, School Principal, or Administration and Supervision is preferred.
