We are looking to hire a part-time Freelance Writer on a contract basis to support our growing Core Intelligence team.

RANEs Core Intelligence team produces daily and weekly risk intelligence briefs utilizing open-source information. Subject matter covers a diverse range of industries and risk topics, but our main areas of concentration are geopolitical, safety & security, cybersecurity, and compliance.

The Freelance Writer will be responsible for writing original summaries for one of our morning publications:

• The Freelance Writer will receive from the team a list of 12 open-source article hyperlinks on pre-determined afternoons between 4:00-5:00 PM EST. The days range from Sunday through Thursday.
• The Freelance Writer will summarize each article in a single paragraph of approximately 200 words. The summaries are written in original prose, not bullet points. (The use of generative AI is not allowed to produce the written summary.)
• The Freelance Writer will submit the finished summaries to the team no later than 3:00 AM EST. The summaries are expected to be edited, “polished,” and publication-ready upon submission.
• We are currently looking to fill two evening time slots, although additional slots may become available.

This is a great opportunity for established freelancers to work in a flexible role that provides direct exposure to a wide range of geopolitical, security, regulatory, and cyber issues.

This will be a part-time contract role, with compensation of $45-55 an hour. It is assumed that the Freelance Writer will spend approximately 3-4 hours working each of their assigned days.

This will be a remote working position.

Qualifications:

• 5 + years of experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong writing skills: writers will be expected to be proficient in both headline writing and distilling sometimes complex material into a concise, readable, and engaging paragraph.
• Writers will be expected to edit their own work, according to the AP style guide.
• While not mandatory, good working knowledge of current events is a plus.
• The candidate must be detail-oriented, have a proven ability to manage projects on tight deadlines, and be able to successfully collaborate with others.
