You will have the opportunity to introduce local children and teens to outdoor living, adventure sports, and contribute to the development of an inclusive Active Transportation Corridor through the Mad River Valley. You will develop an appreciation for the importance of nature connection and the essential role of bike and pedestrian infrastructure in building communities. This position is part of the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board AmeriCorps (VHCB AmeriCorps). The VHCB AmeriCorps program supports the innovative dual-goal approach to creating stable affordable housing opportunities for Vermont residents while preserving the natural and working landscape. Mad River Path is a community-supported organization leading the implementation of the Active Transportation Corridor from Warren to Moretown in the Mad River Valley, Vermont. We connect communities and provide access to nature and opportunities for outdoor recreation for valley residents and visitors. This position is Quarter Time: Requires 460 hours of service for an average of 40 hours per week for 12 weeks. Member will receive a living allowance of $7,943 (pre-tax), and an education award of $1,956.35 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Other benefits include health insurance, federal school loan forbearance, and various training and networking opportunities. Member Duties : •Maintain 15 miles of paths as part of a stewardship team; includes using manual and power tools •Assist teaching groups of 10 students, ages 9-15 in an outdoor setting •Learn and model introductory adventure sports and wilderness living skills alongside the student groups (ex. canoeing, rock climbing, caving, map and compass navigation, outdoor cooking, and camping) •Participate and lead 5 and 6-day long overnight trips for student groups •Share out service activities, updates, and events with the community with blog posts, local newspaper, and creating outreach/educational social media content •Coordinate and lead student and volunteer trail groups -Participate in all VHCB AmeriCorps Trainings, Service Days, Events and Program Initiatives -Engage in professional and personal development activities and networking opportunities For full description, please visit vhcb.org/our-programs/vhcb-americorps Program Benefits : Health Coverage , Living Allowance , Childcare assistance if eligible , Education award upon successful completion of service , Training .
