The Senior Engineer II, Operations Engineering provides technical support to the Opertations teams for onshore wind projects. This position works directly with the Asset Managers, Operations and Maintenance personnel, Project Managers and fellow Operations Engineering teams to identify, quantify, investigate, report on and correct the root causes of sub-optimal fleet performance and reliability. This role will support all of the renewables assets in the Americas from the end of construction to decommissioning with effort on Operational success and needed repair at existing project sites.

As RWECE is growing in terms of managed assets as the existing fleet ages, the position supports the growing asset base and growing maintenance needs which often come with age.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Participate in Technical Due Diligences (TDD) for electrical components, which will ensure that operational insights are effectively captured
  • Analyze the existing generators, converter, transformer, control and electrical failure modes in the RWECE fleet
  • Evaluate the criticality of each failure mode within electrical components and evaluate risk of catastrophic failure
  • Perform root cause analysis and corrective action for generator, converter and electrical system damages and failures
  • Support generator, converter and transformer failure dispositions
  • Support (and/or manage third party consultants) in conducting root cause analyses to determine primary reasons for major failures and find solutions for them that impact plant operations
  • Mentor and train other engineers to improve competence and performance of the team
  • Develop component specifications and repair/ refurbishment specifications for electrical critical parts to ensure their reliability
  • Develop measurements and KPIs to drive the teams performance on project delivery and accuracy
  • Allocate time for R&D efforts focused on future tools and technologies
  • Lead initiatives to develop engineering practices and processes that improve engineering quality, productivity, and results
  • Review and ensure turbine grid compliance 
  • Develop and review maintenance procedures for electrical components
  • Review and manage software updates and ensure their processes are in place
  • Adhere to the Companys values and behaviors as aspired to by RWECE

Job Requirements and Experiences:

  • Requires Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • 12 years relevant electrical engineering experience preffered
  • Working knowledge of equipment utilized in the renewable energy sector inclusive of utility scale wind turbines
  • Demonstrated experience leading root cause analyses and corrective action problem-solving for mechanical components
  • Demonstrated experience developing component or repair specifications and working with suppliers to qualify mechanical components for purchase or repair
  • Knowledge of the different generator and converter/inverter types
  • Knowledge of wind turbine generator electrical systems
  • Knowledge of industry standards and recommended practices
  • Knowledge of data analytics, reduction and reporting
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to manage customer relationships
  • Demonstrated desire to learn about the Company and the renewables space
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams
  • Strong leadership and communication, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong organization skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables
  • Ability to multi-task, while working independently and as part of a team
  • Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities
  • Proven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from a diverse set of backgrounds
  • Responds well to direction, is easy to challenge and develop, and is coachable

Work Environment: 

This position is an office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWECE offices and field locations. The employee must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time.
