The Wall Street Journal is seeking a dynamic Talent Coach for a new development program focused on ensuring our journalists are equipped with cutting-edge skills in content creation and audience engagement. Reporting directly to the director of the Talent Lab, this role will be responsible for developing, delivering, and optimizing social media training and coaching for our journalists. The Talent Coach will equip our journalists with the skills and strategies needed to effectively build their personal brand, engage with audiences, amplify their work and navigate the complexities of various social-media platforms.

You will:

  • Design and continuously update comprehensive social-media training modules and resources tailored to the needs of journalists, covering platforms like X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, and emerging platforms.

  • Provide personalized 1:1 coaching and lead group workshops for reporters on a range of social media topics, including:

  • Developing a strong journalistic voice and personal brand online.

  • Content strategy and creation for different platforms (text, images, short-form video).

  • Audience engagement, community building and responding to comments.

  • Growth strategies and analytics interpretation.

  • Best practices for live social media coverage and breaking news.

  • Ethical considerations, verification, and responsible sharing.

  • Lead hands-on training sessions focused on technical skills and storytelling techniques for self-shooting and editing social video content, optimized for various platforms.

  • Stay abreast of the latest social media trends, algorithm changes, platform updates and industry best practices to ensure training remains cutting-edge and relevant.

  • Work with reporters to set social media goals, track progress, provide constructive feedback and identify areas for improvement.

  • Develop guides, templates, and other practical resources to support reporters ongoing social media development.

  • Collaborate closely with the director of the Talent Lab and other team members to integrate social media training into the broader Talent Lab curriculum and organizational objectives.

  • Provide guidance and support to reporters on day-to-day social media challenges and opportunities.

You have:

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience managing social media for a news organization, prominent journalist, or public figure, with a strong understanding of journalistic ethics.

  • Proven experience in developing and delivering effective training or coaching programs.

  • Deep expertise in current social media platforms (X, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, etc.), including their features, analytics, and best practices.

  • Proficiency in creating compelling social media content, including strong writing, visual storytelling, and basic video production/editing skills for mobile.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.

  • Strong analytical skills to interpret social media data and provide actionable insights.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • A passion for journalism and empowering reporters to succeed in the digital age.

The position will be based in New York and reports to the director of the Talent Lab.

Pay Range: $95,000 - $110,000
