The British Defence Staff in the United States (BDSUS) has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic person to join the United States Support Group (USSG) as a Healthcare and Education Co-ordinator located in the British Embassy in Washington DC. This opportunity is a rewarding role which supports and further develops the special relationship between the UK and the US.

The USSG Support Team delivers support across the USA network for British Defence Staff civilian and Service personnel (ca 900+ people posted across the USA).  We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has a real passion for service delivery and an ability to communicate compassionately and clearly with clients. The successful applicant will be a key member of the BDSUS Healthcare and Education team to advise, administer and authorise medical, dental and education claims amongst our UK overseas community, including their families.  Whilst experience in an associated sector would be advantageous, it is not essential; attention to detail, a positive attitude and strong teamwork ethics will be paramount.

Roles and responsibilities:

  1. Understand and process all Healthcare and Education queries in a timely, but sensitive manner. Display empathy whilst also maintaining professionalism to ensure needs are met within the remit appropriate UK guidelines.
  2. Process Healthcare claims accurately, within 24 hours of receipt. Respond to all healthcare queries within 72 hours of receipt.
  3. Communicate with Insurance providers to ensure any authorisation or payment issues are dealt with in a timely fashion.
  4. Respond to all education queries and claims within 72 hours of receipt. Ensure appropriate authorisation is obtained for these and that that accurate recordings are kept of each family/childs agreed educational provision.
  5. Liaise with the appropriate UK specialist staff on cases where a medical matter requires specialist recommendations, to ensure that all treatments delivered are in line with NHS guidelines.
  6. Liaise with the appropriate UK education specialists to ensure that all education decisions are made in line with UK practice and guidelines.
  7. Ensure that you abide by the Caldicott/HIPAA principles and raise issues where conflicts arise in dealing with health information that may breach the policy.
  8. Carry out any other tasks commensurate with the grade and responsibilities.
