- Two years of library experience
- Associates degree in Library Science, Education, Liberal Arts, Social Science, Information Management, or related field
- A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
- Experience with library-related automation systems or databases; eReaders and other digital devices
- Experience creating and implementing programs for youth, teens, and adults
- Paraprofessional library skills acquired through a specialized educational training program
- Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers using the Librarys District Great Expectations customer service model
- Assists with preparing, implementing, and presenting public programs
- Assists with conducting school visits, group tours and community outreach
- Performs routine opening/closing procedures
- Assists with providing direct service to customers through basic reference and readers advisory services
- Assists patrons in the use of computer services, including the online catalog, the Internet, and various databases
- Responds to customer concerns
- Creates reading logs, brochures, signage, posters, bulletin boards, letters, bookmarks, bibliographies, games, promotional displays and pamphlets
- Assists with compiling and reporting required statistics
- Assists with collection development, including weeding, shifting, shelf-reading, etc., as needed
- Assists with the placement, training, and scheduling of Library volunteers
- Work is performed in a library environment with a varied schedule continually dependent on branch needs and often requires evening and weekend availability
- Ability to lift bins, push carts, stoop to shelve, kneel to shelve, walk to assist customers with finding materials, walk to and from staff area to public area, move craft and program supplies from various storage areas to the site of program in the library and off-site
- Ability to lift 20 pounds floor to waist, lift 5 pounds waist to shoulder, lift 1 pound shoulder to overhead, carry 10 pounds a distance of 50 feet, and push/pull 50 pounds a distance of 100 feet
