Job Description and Duties

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by performing a variety of skilled work in the operations, maintenance, and repair of heating, air conditioning, refrigeration systems, ventilation, lighting, power, water, water treatment, and other mechanical systems in support of the CDPH, Richmond Campus. The Stationary Engineer may instruct and/or lead other Stationary Engineers, Maintenance Mechanics, Building Maintenance Workers, and Service Assistants. In addition, this position may direct contractors in support of the infrastructure and equipment repairs.

The incumbent works under the general direction of the Chief Engineer II of the Engineering Section, Engineering Unit

Stationary Engineers are provided with uniforms and free laundering.

This classification is eligible for a recruitment and retention pay differential for the Greater Bay Area at 5% above the base rate for each qualifying pay period.

Alternate work schedules may be available.

The Program Support Branch (PSB) provides a variety of supportive services to CDPH Programs.

The CDPH’s Richmond Campus is a 29-acre property housing over 1,200 employees located in Richmond’s Marina Bay and is minutes away from the El Cerrito Del Norte and Richmond BART stations and public transit, with free shuttle service between the campus and the El Cerrito Del Norte BART station. The campus comprises offices, state-of-the-art laboratories, and a warehouse. Free employee parking is available for employees working day shift, including free electric vehicle charging and public transit subsidy up to $300 a month.
