Idaho Asphalt Supply, Inc. is a leading asphalt supplier and marketer in the Inland Northwest and Pacific Northwest Regions. With plants in Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, California, and Arizona, IAS supplies a diverse product line of asphalts, polymer-modified asphalt, and asphalt emulsions to the road maintenance and construction industry. IAS is looking for an energized and flexible self-starter to fill a full-time opening for an Operator 3 that reports to the Plant Manager at our North Salt Lake facility.

Scope and Responsibilities:*

  • Top and bottom load/unload asphalt trucks.
  • Dry out trailers.
  • Load/unload rail cars.
  • Raw materials and product sampling.
  • Forklift operation.
  • Basic (PM) preventative maintenance and troubleshoot of load/unload.
  • Learn the plant color code or ID system for the values, lines, pumps, and tanks.
  • Obtain general knowledge of products and plant layout.
  • Knowledge of the PMA and emulsion production process.
  • Ability to perform scale operations.
  • Dispatch and Bill of Lading (BOL) generation.
  • Knowledge of dilutes and medium curing (MC) production.
  • Tank transfers and blending.
  • Knowledge of chemical unloading.
  • Assist with mill and boiler operations.
  • Ability to perform basic maintenance.
  • Knowledge of plant quality control testing.
  • Knowledge of the lock-out/tag-out process.
  • Knowledge of the confined entry preparation process.
  • Knowledge of the boiler, hot oil, and glycol operations and the ability to perform maintenance on these systems.
  • Ability to perform maintenance, winterization, troubleshooting on the utility systems.
  • Knowledge of the waste handling processes.
  • Ability to operate mill with oversight.
  • Trains/leads Operators 1 and 2.

Position Requirements:

To be a strong fit for this opportunity you will have:

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year of related experience/education/certification.
  • Preferred to have previous work experience in the refinery or emulsions industry.
  • The ability to perform basic arithmetic operations accurately (add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate percentages).
  • Communicate in English (orally and in writing).
  • Strong customer focus.
  • The ability to learn quickly and be able to perform job duties within 60 days of hire.
  • This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
  • Local candidates preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift, carry, pull, and/or push or otherwise move 25/50/80 pounds daily/frequently.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and climb daily/frequently.
  • Must be able to walk on, or work on an open grated catwalk 50 feet high.
  • Must be able to carry a 3” x 20’ rubber asphalt hoses a distance of 120’ unassisted.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders daily/frequently to a height of 50 feet.
  • Must be able to work in a crouched position beneath transport trailers or rails cars for a minimum of 20 minutes at a time for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Must be able to work in enclosed or confined spaces (tanks).
  • Must be able to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach/working overhead occasionally.
  • Must be able to sit, with keyboard use/repetitive hand motion occasionally.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in extreme weather and perform heavy physical labor in safe manner, work indoors and outdoors in and around industrial and electrical equipment and work in temperature extremes due to weather conditions and operating equipment.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective gear on a daily basis.
